Our Community Engagement Values
Overall, the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN’s outreach and engagement activities are ethical, feasible, and build capacity. We are committed to always improving our work to engage our communities.
- Our community engagement is ethical. Activities that engage citizens, providers and stakeholders are inclusive, timely, transparent and accessible. The LHIN is clear about why they are engaging the public, what they hope to achieve, who should be involved and why, and how the results will be used. Effective activities provide clear and relevant information, are held in user friendly and accessible environments, and are linguistically and culturally appropriate.
- Our community engagement is feasible. We work to make sure our activites are doable, have enough resources, are appropriate to the purpose of engagement, and are designed to best reach the goal of the activity.
- Our community engagement builds capacity. In the LHIN office, community engagement activities are aligned with existing planning, intelligence gathering and reporting. Out in the LHIN community, many citizens, providers and stakeholders are already engaged in health improvement activities both within and across health sectors. Our activities build on this engagement, acknowledging the important role that local leadership and community champions have in shaping the local health system. Also the LHIN works to create a welcoming environment for persons to get involved in new conversations to improve the health system.
- We are committed to always improving our work to engage our communities. All community engagement activities are regularly evaluated to understand whether the process was useful, and how it could be more effective. We evaluate the process, how engaged people were, the quality of the conversation or input, and what impact the activity had on not only LHIN processes, but also the person participating.
