Working with our Hospitals
Ontario’s Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) respect local governance and the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN works with the existing governance structures to make the health system better. This work is part of the day to day functioning of the health system.
Hospital boards make decisions that reflect the needs of their organization and their community. Occasionally, those decisions require the LHIN to support the decision and allow it to move forward - specifically decisions that involve integration.
In some cases, integration will be achieved by creating service delivery partnerships; in other cases, where service delivery is highly fragmented and inefficient, integration goals may suggest that certain providers should stop providing specific services, while others should expand the scope of their services.
Over the last three years, there have been two examples of hospital planning that have involved integrations that required the LHIN's involvement.
