Jul 24, 2017 Grimsby Resident Joins HNHB LHIN Board of Directors
Janine van den Heuvel, Chair of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (HNHB LHIN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Grimsby resident Shelley Moneta to the Board of Directors. Following a long and distinguished career in the health care sector, Mrs. Moneta joins the LHIN Board for a 3-year term, bringing with her a reputation of providing innovative and versatile leadership.

Working with hospitals of all specialties and sizes across Ontario, Mrs. Moneta has built relationships and implemented programs that have led to the adoption of leading practices and enhanced outcomes.
Jul 05, 2017 Community Members Sought for LHIN’s Patient and Family Advisory Committee

Patients, families and caregivers are encouraged to participate in the new Patient and Family Advisory Committee (PFAC) of the HNHB LHIN. The HNHB LHIN’s PFAC will aim to assist in shaping the LHIN’s programs, services and initiatives designed to improve care locally. The role of a PFAC member is to share his or her unique stories, experiences, opinions and perspectives in order to strengthen engagement of patients, caregivers and the public in important local health planning decisions and policies.

Jun 08, 2017 Grimsby Resident Appointed Vice-Chair of HNHB LHIN Board

Janine van den Heuvel, Chair of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (HNHB LHIN), is pleased to announce the appointment of Bill Thompson as the new Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors effective May 31, 2017 up to and including May 12, 2018.

Mr. Thompson, a resident of Grimsby, first joined the LHIN Board as a Director in May 2015. He possesses extensive experience across a variety of sectors including health care, the local food and wine industry and as a director and senior financial officer with community credit unions. He served as Senior Financial Officer at Hamilton Health Sciences until 2012 and prior to that had held senior financial roles with TMF Food (Stoney Creek) and Vineland Estates Winery (Vineland).

Laurie Ryan-Hill, formerly Acting Chair of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (HNHB LHIN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Janine van den Heuvel as the new Chair of the Board of Directors effective March 22, 2017 up to and including June 29, 2019.

Mrs. van den Heuvel first joined the LHIN Board as a Director in June 2016 and previously served on the Board of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Community Care Access Centre, including most recently as Chair. Mrs. van den Heuvel possesses an impressive communications management background within the health care sector and from time spent working in government.
Mar 10, 2017 Brantford resident appointed to HNHB LHIN Board of Directors

Laurie Ryan-Hill, Acting Chair of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (HNHB LHIN) is pleased to announce the three-year appointment of Brantford resident William Chopp to the Board of Directors.

Mr. Chopp brings more than 40 years of experience working as an educator and administrator with the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board. During his tenure with the school board, Mr. Chopp has worked as a Teacher, Principal, Superintendent of Education and now as a School Board Trustee. He has also worked as a professor at the post-secondary level, teaching both Special Education at Nipissing University and Special Education Law at the Adler School of Psychology. Mr. Chopp currently serves on Mohawk College’s Educational Assistant Advisory Committee.

Laurie Ryan-Hill, Acting Chair of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (HNHB LHIN) is pleased to announce the three-year appointment of Waterdown resident Saqib Cheema to the Board of Directors.

Mr. Cheema, a Certified Management Accountant who has also earned his Chartered Professional Accountant designation, brings technical knowledge, financial expertise and a corporate governance background to the board.
Dec 06, 2016 Mohawk College Vice President Appointed to Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN Board of Directors

Laurie Ryan-Hill, Acting Chair of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (HNHB LHIN) is pleased to announce the three-year appointment of Paul Armstrong as a new Director to the Board.

Mr. Armstrong, who serves as Vice President, Academic at Mohawk College, brings with him extensive experience as a medical professional, administrator, educator and volunteer in the Hamilton and Brantford communities. Mr. Armstrong is a trained medical imaging technologist who holds diplomas in both Diagnostic Ultrasound and Radiological Technology from Mohawk College, as well as a Masters of Business Administration from Queen’s University. Prior to taking on his current role as Mohawk’s Vice President, Academic, he served as the College’s Dean of Health Sciences, Community and Urban Studies; Director of Academic Relations; Chair of Health Sciences and Human Services; and Faculty in the Department of Medical Imaging; as well as having spent numerous years as a practicing Ultrasound and Radiological Technologist at Hamilton General Hospital and McMaster University Medical Centre.

Ontario is investing approximately $ 10,421,700 in the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant area this year to enhance support for home care clients with high needs and their caregivers.

Province-wide this investment will help clients and caregivers most in need, including $80 million for enhanced home care and $20 million for caregiver respite.
Mar 31, 2016 Burlington resident appointed to HNHB LHIN Board of Directors

Michael Shea, Board Chair of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (HNHB LHIN) is pleased to announce the three-year appointment of Madhuri Ramakrishnan as a new Director to the Board.

Ms. Ramakrishnan, a Burlington resident, worked for over 30 years in management and consulting roles with the Business Development Bank of Canada and brings to the board her extensive leadership experience with local service organizations and business groups. She served on the board of Schizophrenia Society of Ontario and has also served terms as a Board Member and Director with the Burlington Chamber of Commerce and the Burlington Economic Development Corporation.
Oct 19, 2015 One of Canada’s Largest Health Studies Seeks Participants for Second Hamilton Study Centre, November 16-19

The Ontario Health Study (OHS) recently announced it will return to Hamilton for a second Hamilton Study Centre, following a successful run last year. The centre will be open from November 16th - 19th at the Les Chater Family YMCA. By visiting the Hamilton Study Centre, participants can contribute to a long-term health research study while learning more about their own health.

Eric Hoskins is pleased to announce that the Detection of Indicators and Vulnerabilities for Emergency Room Trips (DIVERT) Home Care Initiative, through the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Community Care Access Centre (HNHB CCAC) is one of 10 applicants recognized as a member of the 2015 Minister’s Medal Honour Roll.

Michael Shea, Board Chair of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (HNHB LHIN) is pleased to announce the three-year appointment of Dominic Ventresca as a new Director to the Board.

Dominic, a St. Catharines resident and retired senior health care administrator, brings with him extensive experience from across the health and human services sectors. He recently served as Director, Senior Services for the Regional Municipality of Niagara and was responsible for overseeing the management of eight long-term care homes and numerous community programs. Prior to that Dominic was the administrator of the Niagara Region’s Linhaven Home.

Apr 17, 2015 Connecting Hamilton Seniors with the Care They Need to Live Independently

Ontario is helping more seniors maintain their strength and recover from illness or injury so they can continue to live more independently.

The province is investing nearly $1 million over three years in Hamilton to help seniors with complex medical conditions and who have experienced a recent loss of strength or mobility. Local funding will enable Hamilton Health Sciences to implement the Seniors Mobile Assess and Restore Team (SMART) model at its Hamilton General and Juravinski Hospital sites.

Mar 05, 2015 Workplace Mental Health Focus for Burlington Business Community

On March 6, members of the Burlington business community, along with MPP Eleanor McMahon, local service providers and clinicians , will welcome the Hon. Kevin Flynn, Minister of Labour for a roundtable discussion on mental health in the workplace. This meeting is further to a policy resolution put forth by the Burlington Chamber of Commerce on a Workplace Mental Health Strategy.

This roundtable comes on the heels of the February 25 announcement by Minister Eric Hoskins of a $28M investment by the Ontario government in local mental health and addictions organizations that will enhance access and care for local residents who are experiencing mental health and addictions challenges.

 The Aboriginal Health Network (AHN) of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant (HNHB) Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is working towards Aboriginal patients and caregivers experiencing better outcomes in the health care system by introducing three Aboriginal Patient Navigators through the De Dwa Da Dehs Nye’s Aboriginal Health Centre.

This program provides one Aboriginal Patient Navigator role in each of these three zones – Hamilton; Niagara; and Haldimand, Norfolk, Brant, Six Nations, New Credit. This position will work with mainstream health service providers (hospitals, CCAC and community) and Aboriginal health service providers to help Aboriginal clients, caregivers and their families.

Aug 22, 2013 Media Release: Expanding Access to Dialysis Care at Six Nations of the Grand River

More patients requiring dialysis services at Six Nations of the Grand River are now able to receive care closer to home thanks to the addition of six dialysis stations. Located at the White Pines Wellness Centre, the Six Nations Dialysis Treatment Program opened in 2008 with six dialysis stations and was able to provide care to 12 patients, three days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with two shifts running per day, at 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.

May 30, 2012 Backgrounder: Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO)

The number of people with cognitive impairment is growing, which places further strain on individuals and the health care system. Older people with cognitive impairments due to mental health problems, addictions, dementia, or other neurological conditions often exhibit responsive or challenging behaviours such as aggression, wandering, physical resistance and agitation. These behaviours, which occur whether the person is living at home, in acute care or in long‐term care, are a major source of distress to the individual, their family or caregivers and others providing support.

The HNHB LHIN, along with Ontario’s 14 LHINs is investing nearly $4 million to enhance services for seniors who exhibit behaviours associated with complex and challenging mental health, dementia or other neurological conditions by investing in local initiatives that will improve care.
